As this year’s, Halloween celebrations draw to a close, it's down with the decorations and out with sweet treats for another couple of months anyway. In our last blog, we discussed how Halloween fashion doesn't need to be unsustainable. But there's another huge waste issue that Halloween brings that can be solved very easily.
Research conducted by the environmental not-for-profit Hubbub, found that during the Halloween festivities 42% of the UK population (over 25,000,000) will buy a pumpkin. Just one-third are ever eaten, with the rest ending up straight in the bin (25%), in food waste (20%) or composted (19%). According to Populas, the main reason for the waste (52%) is that people don’t know how to cook them.
We've rounded up some of our favourite simple, vegan pumpkin soup recipes to help you squash the food waste this Halloween.
